Resilient Community Arts
Easthampton, MA

For my Community Arts minor, I completed an internship with Resilient Community Arts in Eastmahotpm, MA in the fall of 2021. During my time there, I managed social media accounts and supported guests and instructors in a variety of studio events. I also had the opportunity to plan and lead a studio event independently. I chose to host a 2-hour mosaic-making event, open to all ages and abilities. The event was attended by a diverse group of people and was positively received by all. All participants were given options of surfaces to mosaic on top of as well as many different types of materials to apply to their mosaic. These options worked to foster the open studio environment RCA aims to provide its attendants.

Springfield Central High School

Springfield, MA

In the spring of 2021, I worked with an art teacher a Springfield Central High School to complete a second pre-practicum. I worked with grades 9-12 in Foundations of Art and Ceramics classes. In this placement, I observed lessons taught by my cooperating teacher and taught lessons virtually via Zoom. Here, I was able to work with a diverse community, including students with IEPs and ELL students. Materials I taught with include colored pencils, graphite, sharpie, and air-dry clay.

Granger & Clark Elementary

Agawam, MA

From September-December 2020, I completed a total of 103 pre-practicum hours at Clifford Granger Elementary & James Clark Elementary School in Agawam, MA. I both observed and taught visual art lessons virtually via GoogleMeet to students Grades K-4, working with the art teacher for these two buildings, Lauren Mooney. I prepared lessons that incorporated children’s literature, art history, music, and the elements and principles of art and design into art lessons. In this placement, I was also able to work with a diverse community, including students with IEPs and ELL students.

I Am...

Grade 2 Unit Plan

This Grade 2 unit plan was made for my Curriculum, Methods, and Organization of Secondary Ed. class.

During this unit, students will discuss, interact with, and create a variety of artworks demonstrating the elements of art and principles of design. Each day will focus on a new element or principle, or a combination of two that relate to one another. They will learn about these qualities by interacting with art pieces and other visual products that exemplify these qualities. The elements that will be taught in these lessons include space, line, value, shape, texture, form, and color. The principles that will be taught include contrast, pattern, balance, proportion & scale, rhythm & movement, emphasis, and variety. Art-making processes featured in this unit include drawing, painting, collaging, and printmaking.

IMPACT

Grade 5 Unit Plan

This Grade 5 unit plan was made for my Integrating Art in the Classroom class. This 5 project unit focuses on important historical figures and what it means to make an impact on the world around you. Although initially made for the 5th grade, I could see these lessons could work well for  upper middle school or lower high school.

Grotonwood

In the Summer of 2019, I worked as the Craft & Store Coordinator for Grotonwood Camp and Conference center in Groton, MA. There, I got the opportunity to work creatively with campers grades 1-12 as well as adult campers. In this role, I planned, prepared, and lead instructional craft activities every day. We worked with materials such as paint, clay, masks, collage, and a variety of other crafts. I also managed their country store, working daily as a cashier. Below you can see examples of some of my favorite projects and workshops I planned and implemented.
